Elementary STEAM teacher, Kim Chenoweth, talks about this year's 9th Annual Northville STEAM Fair! The community open house will be held on April 25th from 6:00pm-8:00pm. The 4th grade student visit will be on April 26th from 9am-1:30pm. The event is held in the Northville High School gymnasium.

Hi, my name is Kim Chenoweth and I'm one of the elementary steam teachers here in Northville and I'm here today to talk to you about this year's 9th Annual Northville steam Fair coming up on April 25th and 26th. We're really excited to bring back the STEAM Fair this year after last year's record-breaking number of presentations for an even bigger and better fair for all of you to be part of. The STEAM Fair is an opportunity for any student in grades kindergarten all the way through 12th grade to show their passion in any area related to steam. Our theme this year is Inspire, Imagine and Invent which means the possibilities are endless on projects and ideas that you can share with all of us when you come to the fair. Whether it's an idea for solving a problem, perhaps an invention that you have an idea to make a model of, maybe you're into coding or Robotics and want to prepare something to share with visitors, possibly design thinking maybe there's something you want to build or create or is there a STEAM career that you're really passionate about and want to share with others. The ideas can go on and on but we're really excited to see you, our Northville students, participating this year. In order to participate you will need to fill out a project submission form and this is available from your teachers, parents, if you can't find it please speak out for some help. The rules of the steam Fair are also included, such as no chemicals or slime or candy or things to pass out to our visitors and such. Please read the rules carefully before submitting your project form. You can do this project by yourself, you can find a group of friends and work on it together but we're looking forward to our community open house on the evening of April 25th and then our fourth grade traditional visits during the day on April 26th. If you have any questions ask a teacher, ask your parents, please reach out for help. The NEF and Northville Public Schools are so excited to see you this year at our STEAM Fair.

The 9th Annual Northville STEAM Fair (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) for our students, families, and the community, will take place on Tuesday, April 25th - Wednesday, April 26th.

Location: Northville High School Gymnasium
Community Event: April 25th, 2023 - 6:00pm to 8:00pm
4th Grade Student Visit: April 26th, 2023 - 9:00am to 1:30pm*

*4th Graders from all Elementary buildings attend the STEAM Fair as a visitor to view all of the wonderful exhibits. More information about this field trip will be coming soon.

The 2023 theme is “Inspire - Imagine - Invent” which is a focus on using engineering and design to create mind-blowing innovations. Through a generous donation from the Northville Educational Foundation, and our partnerships with other community partners, we are able to provide an exciting, hands-on learning opportunity for our students and families.

In order to aid in our planning, Project Ideas will be taken from now until APRIL 7th. Final Project submission forms will be sent out to those who pre-register their Project Ideas. You still have time to work on your project after you submit your Project Idea. The Final Project submission due date is April 19th, you can still work on your project until the STEAM Fair, but this form will ask for Project Creators, Project Title, Project Description and other logistical information.

Presenters can choose to create a project for Display Only and not attend the STEAM Fair, their project will be on display for everyone to see. Or you can do a Student Led Project and attend the STEAM Fair on the following dates:

Tuesday, April 25th - 6:00pm - 8:00pm for the Community Event
Wednesday, April 26th - 9:00am - 1:30pm for the 4th Grade Student Visits

Each student participant will receive a STEAM Fair t-shirt along with other fun goodies! Please complete the STEAM Fair Project Idea Form to reserve your spot and order your t-shirt.

STEAM Fair Do’s and Don’ts:

Most importantly, be creative and have fun!
Team up with friends to create a project.
Little help from parents or teachers is allowed.
Project size to fit on 4ft long table space - if more space is needed, let us know.
Refrain from using chemicals, making slime, erupting volcanoes, etc.
Due to allergies, refrain from giving out candy or food to students.
Refrain from using glitter or sand, it is hard on the gym floors.
Students are responsible for their projects at the STEAM Fair.

Project IDEA Due Date: April 7th, 2023
Final Project Submission Due Date: April 19th, 2023
