Mary Kay Gallagher Named 2022 John Genitti Northville Citizen of the Year

Each year, the Northville Chamber of Commerce celebrates the dedication and commitment of community members that give their time, energy and talent to make Northville a special place to live, work and play. In 2014, the award was designated the “John Genitti Citizen of the Year Award”, in honor of local resident and businessman John Genitti.

On Wednesday, April 13, 2022, following the Northville State of the Community presentations at Schoolcraft College, Mayor Turnbull awarded NPS Superintendent Mary Kay Gallagher with the 2022 John Genitti Citizen of the Year Award.

The Citizen of the Year receives a place of honor in: the Independence Day Parade, the Heritage Festival Parade and the Holiday Lighted Parade.

Criteria for Nomination:
  • Be involved in actively supporting (through time, talent or financial support) an organization that improves our community.
  • Live or work in the Northville Community.
  • Show concern for community, environment and family.
  • Be a role model for community youth and citizens.
"Therefore, be it resolved, that as the Mayor of the City of Northville, I do hereby proclaim Easter Sunday, April 17, 2022, in the City of Northville, Mary Kay Gallagher day," stated Brian Turnbull, mayor of the city of Northville.

In recognition for her commitment of time, talent, and dedication to the improvement of the Northville Community. The County of Wayne Michigan, City of Northville, Charter Township of Northville, and the State of Michigan, each wrote a resolution honoring Mary Kay Gallagher as the 2022 Citizen of the Year.

"I had no idea this was happening but just heartfelt gratitude to this community for all that you have done for Northville Schools. But for me, personally, to our board of education, to all of you in the room who's lives have crossed my path, you've entered into who I am as a person and I've made many great friendships over this time but I'm humbled by this honor and look forward to the Victorian Parade and being on the wagon. So thank you very much," stated Mary Kay Gallagher.
